TEST...

This is a test to see if Wordpress auto aquires posts from blogger, this is a test, this is only a test, had this been a real post by me it would have been much, much, MUCH longer.

mwahaha!

SO earlier today (or rather yesterday as it's past midnight) Brandon, the worship leader for Lifepoint's Downtown campus and my former roommate got married.

I'm sure it was a moving and stirring ceremony of which I wasn't officially invited, (at least I don't think I was... err that's a long story, he did tell me to come if I could make it) Alas I had to work and therefore was unable to participate in the time-honored tradition of pranking the grooms car.

So instead Clark and I got together to prank his guitar.

As you can see it's nothing too horrible just a way for guys to tell their friend congratulations and that we care. And yes that's a microphone shirnk wrapped to it.

Wordpress...

No I'm not bowing to peer pressure...

Okay so maybe I am bowing to peer pressure, but not really...

See Clark's been on and on (and on and on and on and on) about how good wordpress is and how much he likes it over blogger, typepad, and what else other service he was using... so I'm gonna check it out and see if I like it... in which case I may move TBOFDD over there, we'll see.

Oh the Irony...

So I finally post the Twitter blog post I started last night... now the thing about twitter is with the nature of the service they, (the geeks at twitter) are constantly upgrading, fixing and generally tweeking their servers, which results in twitter outages... Not ten seconds after I put up my post twitter went down for yet unknown reasons...

TWitter

So I twitter....
Yes that's right as if blogging wasn't enough I twitter, it works out great especially since I've now added a texting plan to my phone. (Honestly, I spent more on texts last phone bill then phone calls, So what it twitter? Well I found THIS LINK HERE on Pastor Wade Joy's blog (worship pastor from elevation) that describes and explains it much better than I could. The nice thing about twitter is that it syncs nicely to facebook, or in this case my blog. as you can see from the top right section.

But while I'm on the subject of twitter let me bring something else up, it's called blip. Now what is Blip you may ask? (hey i did when I first saw it) well in theory it's twitter for music geeks. Here's what I mean, like twitter you can send short posts to the service, however it has a built in music engine meaning you pick a song (and if it has it) you can play that song from your blip page. The cool thing? It syncs to twitter so while you have to click a link it's a nice way to share a song your blipping.. errr listening to. The nice thing is that blip posts show up with a music note in my twitter updates that you can click onto to hear what the song is, they kept it simple and easy to use. Update: that only works from the actual twitter pages, the twitter updates shown on outside the page (like this one) don't seem to link right.

Side note this post was quite a bit of fun to type with all the links and all.

.... Seaquest?

Anyone else remember the short lived TV series with Roy Scheider(sp?) of Jaws Renown?

Well I just saw this on Wired which reminded me of parts of the show.

The Current Kit...

I've often told people I like my drum kits to be either very basic or very complex. The translation is I like 4 piece kits (Kick, Snare, Tom, Floor Tom) and 7+ kits (Kick, Snare, 3 toms, 2 floor toms, etc...) I guess I really don't like what's considered the "Standard" drum kit, (Kick, 14" Snare, 12" Tom, 13" Tom, 15" Floor Tom) I've got a ton of optional/swap out drums for Lifepoint's kit, but here's a picture of my kit.

Yes I have a cymbal addiction, I make no apologies for it either.
The Drums are as follows:
Kick: Tama 23"
Snare: Pacific 13.5# piccolo
Tom: Tama 13"
Floor Tom: Mapex 15"

The Cymbals (as shown, yes, I have more) are as follows:
HiHat: Zildjian K Custom Dark (Bottom) K (top)
Splash(es): Sabian HHX 12", Zildjian A Custom 12#
Crash(es): Sabian B8 Pro 16", Zildjian A 16", Zildjain A Custom 18#
Ride: Zildjian K Custom 20"

Hardware: Roc-N-Soc Hydraulic throne (love it!), Gibraltor double kick (don't snort it was on sale), Pacific Hi-Hat/Cymbal stands.

So my cymbals outnumber my drums 2 to 1.

More on Drive

While I'm processing the next Drive session notes, Clark has this post up regarding drive as well.

Drive Notes Volume 1

Originally Drive Update #3
Update: http://www.driveconference.org/ highlights video is up and awesome.

(When I started this post) I wanted to put up a few notes from last night's session, something I wasn't quote sure I had the mental capacity for by the time I actually got to sit down to type last night.

Point #1
The Church should be the best run organization in your community, I mean look at it, it
a) already has a single uniting vision, seeing people who are far from God experience His plan for their lives.
b) is full of Christians
c) is run by people who are passionate about reaching for Christ

Point #2
To maintain the relational integrity and operate as a team we must choose to trust and be trustworthy.

There often gaps between what we expect of people and what actually happens. We choose to place either trust of suspicion in the gaps.

Two things that make it difficult for us to trust is Who I am, what is my background experience that gives our natural outlook a certain color, and what I see, what have I experience from this person that would color my view from an event.

Three commitments we need to make (And that I will if I have not already made, or shown that I make to my team):

a) When there is a gap between what I expect and what I see I will fill it with trust.
b) When I observe someone filing a gap with suspicion I will come to your defense.
c) If what I expect begins to erode my trust I will come directly to you about it.

Point #3
Being trustworthy is not the equivalent of being flawless in character or performance, it meant being worthy of trust. A trustworthy person comes and addresses the gaps they've created.

There are three commitments we need to make (And that I will if I have not already made, or shown that I make to my team):

a) I commit to do what I say I will do and when I don't I'll tell you.
b) I commit to not over promise and under deliver. But if it looks like that's where things are headed I'll tell you.
c) If you confront me about the gaps I have created I'll tell you the truth.

Where there are gaps there are three causes for blame.
a) A person
b) Human Nature
c) A system

What is the first line of response when something goes wrong?
When something goes wrong it is important to address is quickly. The longer you wait the more likely you are to over communicate (ie blow up) your response.

Here are the take away questions from the session,
1) Are there people in your organization that you have a difficult time trusting?
2) Is it your issue or theirs?
3) What can you do about your part.
4) What do you need to address with them about their parts?
5) Who do you sense has a difficult time trusting you?
6) Why?
7) What can you do about it?

There are a few other points that didn't make it to my review.... just think of it as a reason to get to drive next year!

One of my biggest take away was something that Andy said, To reach people no one else is reaching we need to do things no one else is doing,.

Forget separation, and Kevin Bacon for that matter...

Because here at lifepoint, it's the six degrees of Clark. Confused? there's this mathematical theory (I would assume theory rather than proof) called the 6 degrees of separation in which any person in the world can be connected to any one else with six connections.

There's even a university (And no I don't know who) that has proven that you can link Kevin BAcon to any movie ever listed using this theory.

Well During Drive we've come to realize that we have the six dgress of clark. So far we've been able to link any recording artist we could come up with to Clark within 6 or less steps. The next time you see him, see if you can name someone he can't link within 6 steps.

It is coming...

So I ended up taking Drive Update#3 and turning it into my Notes from Drive post which is going to be Uber long so bear (bare?) with me please, I'm also working on creating a video from the footage I shot while at drive, also taking a lot longer to edit than planned so again, please wait.

For now check THIS out, go to the bottom of the page, these are the three performance songs that they did to kick off each main session at drive. What's sick is it was at least a hundred times better live.

And I think we (Lifepoint) are visible in one or two of the videos as we sat in the center area for the last two session breaks.

Tweaking Windows...

While You're still waiting for the rest of the posts regarding Drive I thought I'd be a geek for a minute.

I have a sad confession to make... I'm not a mac fan, I know this puts me on the minority of Lifepoint Staff as all of them would be mac fan-boys, but I'm a geek and I love getting into the guts of a machine (both hardware and software) and let's face it Mac's don't like you doing that. I can't go and order a new video card, and over clock a processor on a mac... at least I don't think you can. I'll have to ask our resident mac users at todays meeting.

But I'll be the first to admit that some of the things that the MAC os does is pretty cool. Thankfully there are a lot of geeks out there who know their code and have re-created (at least to a degree) some of the cook things that the mac's have. Here's a few of the tweaks (more than just the mac ones) that I run on my pc(s).

Xneat - This nifty little program lets you modify the windows environment, including transparency, window level (ie on top) and a bunch of other little tweaks.

Blogger: The Beat of a Different Drummer - Edit Post "Tweaking Windows..."
Launchy - a long time favorite it's a keyboard program launcher (ie you type it shows up and then launches the program, especially nice on my notebook as I'm not a huge fan of that little touch-pad thing.

DExposE2 - Basically a copy of Expose from the MAC os, it's a nice program switcher that I occasionally use, but like for the simple reason that it looks really cool.

Watch Cat (no link, sorry) - Another Windows environment modifier what I like is that with a couple keystrokes I can hide my taskbar and all my desktop shortcuts, (Mainly becuase I'm OCD about having a clean desktop environment)unfortunetly it's not (yet) Vista compatible so I haven't tried it on my labtop.

Drive Pictures

Complete with commentary

Raven, (AKA Michael) getting a ticket from one of the CHiPs that were patrolling the conference.

Close up of said ticket (take a look at some of the offenses)

They had Mike Lewis (sp?) aka the "Jesus painter" in on Monday night and he painted these while the band was playing. (Sorry for some reason it's not letting me rotate the picture properly)

Close ups of the paintings that he did.

That's it for this batch. More to follow later.

Twitter!

I know one thing that came out of the Drive conference is that a lot of the staff got introduced to Twitter, Now I've known about twitter for a long time now (Fred over at Megatokyo twitters) but I've never bothered to get a twitter account, but after seeing so many people who use twitter I decided to go ahead and bite the bullet, what is twitter? Well don't ask me to describe it, go check it out for yourself. The nice thing is I can easily twitter from my cell phone, and since I'm now on a text messaging package I've got plenty of text's to tiwtter or blog with.

Congrats are in order...

Okay so I've been in ATL for the last 3 days, and I come home and then go to work, then crash and then at practice someone asks me if I've checked out Brandon's Blog, (If you don't know Brandon and I are roommates) and I answer no, as I haven't been online at that point.

Long story short (and here's his post it is short) He's engaged! he popped the question to Heather (his girlfriend, and awesome keyboarding/pianist) and she said yes!

Poor girl I hope she knows what she's getting herself into (just kiding!)

Drive Update #5

Well I'm home.
And the trip back was an adventure.
I'll take full responsability as I was the one driving but I got lost coming back from Atlanta. (The directions said turn RIGHT onto 85, there were NO right's onto frickin 85!)

So about an hour later we finally get back on the way after taking a round about.

And yes I endured merciless taunting from the back seat driver who were unwilling and unable to take the wheel.

So we finally stop for dinner... at some place called Zakby's which is apparently one of Pastor's favorite places. The food was good, the issue was...

Brake issues. We noticed when I went to slow down at a stop light had the brakes to the floor and every was asking.. hey are you gonna slow down for the red light? (I did stop in time). So during/after dinner we're trying to get the van fixed, mind you it's 7 at night so NO garage is open.

We tried adding brake fluid (it was low) didn't seem to help much. We callaed around for rentals, nothing. We prayed over the van and tried again, bing, brakes are once again working, so we piled back into the van and resumed the journey hom, (This time with Josh behind the wheel).

We made it home around 3 in the morning, with David taking the final shift at the wheel, and in all honesty he somehow managed to shave off somewhere between 1 and half an hour.

Well I (along with a couple other of the guys who went down) had their allergies hit hard down in the dirty south, and I'm still recovering so the long posts will have to wait till later.

Having said all that, I will add that the last sessions of Drive were blow-me/you-away amazing. More from my notes after the break.

Drive update #4

No I did not skip update 3, I started that post this morning and ran out of time, and for tonight I wasn't going to do a long post.

Tonight was absolutely amazing!

We had an amazing set of sessions and they finished it off with a trip to their brown ridge campus where they had a really good blue grass band, ('m not a HUGE blue grass fan, but they were really good.) And then guest speaker...

Jeff Foxworthy!

So way more posts to follow, but for now I crash.

Drive Update #2

Tag-line:
Butch Cassidy and the Korean Kid!

Wow...

I mean just WOW.

Tonight was simply amazing.

Here's my highlights, and at the end of drive I'll have some super long post, this is just something I'm working on in the meantime.

Had a great dinner at a family style restaurant with the entire team... and forgot my camera so I didn't take any pictures :(

The Tag-line comes from the fact that for some reason (mainly because it's fairly comical) Pastor has been referring to me as "The Korean Kid" as in, "Hey do a head count, is the Korean Kid in the van?"

Ok, 1st session of Drive was blow me away amazing.

Everything I spent and/or gave up for the trip was worth it completely after tonights session alone.

Andy Stanely came up and talked about trust, and trust worthiness, I think everyone on the trip, including myself has been doing some introspective.

Then the North point worship team. Wow. I've experienced WORSHIP before but not like this, they did "How he loves" and I was singing/worshiping my guts out, to the point where I felt weak in the knees afterwards.

Afterwards Josh and I went to Bahama Breeze to visit with a bunch of other bloggers. During which we did miss an apparently really good talk from Pastor at the Waffle House next to our Hotel, we caught the very tail end of it as we got back . Photo's should be up either tomorrow of the next day. I did get them along with some video that I'll have to edit down first.

Drive update #1

So we're back at the hotel chilling before Drive starts in a few hours. Here's a quick recap of what's gone down so far.

Dusted off the Digital camera and took some stills and a bunch of video.

Will post the above as soon as David G. get's back to the room.

Had a late breakfast.

Messed with some audio from a few of our services, as soon as I can find a free service I'll stream it here for you to hear. IT's all recorded live off a feed from the board and as such has no effects and very little mixing.

Stopped by NAMB HQ (North American Missions Board) They wanted to talk to Pastor for a couple minutes after our phenomenal 61 baptisms yesterday.

Got the sessions... (well all but one) of the ones I wanted to attend INCLUDING a round table discussion for Leading Worship and Selecting music! (These are small intimate sessions with rather limited number of seats so I'm stoked that I got a space).

Toured Northpoints Buckhead Campus it was AMAZING!!!! They've got more audio/video/really cool gear for just their Kid's service than most churches have period!!!!

Got to meet the "legendary" Carlos Whittaker of blogging renown.

I think we're meeting Carlos Tonight (well I know that Jeremy and Josh and I are planning) to be part of a blog party they're having.

I (and most of my roommates) are such a bunch of geeks, there are five of us crammed into one room, and the TV hasn't been on once. The first thing ALL of us did was connect our labtops and check/post blogs...

Clark has been playing really annoying videos he's pulling from youtube.

Working on a blog-post on catch phrases people say.

Pastor Updated his Blog with the information I mentioned

Forgot to mention...

1) I'll be adding a few pictures as we get them.

2) As soon as I figure out how, I'll be posting a couple of the songs we've done over the last few series, some worship, some performance songs as I finally got my keydrive over to Davids to get the files.

What a Day!

I'm not sure if words can describe the amazing day I've had today.

To start off we baptized 61 people this morning. And we only had 17 scheduled. How? Well I could explain but I'm going to guess that Pastor Daniel's blog will have much more information about it in a day or so. I'll link over to there once we get to that point.

Two of those people were members of my team! And another one is from our downtown leadership team! I was helping out backstage so I got to see all of them! For me it was really emotional, I wanted to cry in joy!

Earlier this year I posted about a talk that Pastor gave us about having the vessels for oil.

Well this morning was a God thing, we had 51 sets of clothing prepared for, and when we had 24 people respond first service we were scrambling to get stuff dry and reset for second service.

We used all 51 sets of prepared clothing and not a single person had to "double up" and used a previously used set! How awesome is our God. I'm throughly convinced that if we had 52 sets of clothing there would have been 62 baptisms, he had us prepare the vessels and provided the oil until we ran out!

And our downtown campus praise team led worship this morning and did an awesome job!

So this morning was amazing, then following the service I climbed into a van and we drove 10(ish) hours to Atlanta which is now where I'm posting from.

Had crawfish and gator tail for dinner!

I know that Josh is doing a blogumentary from Drive and I'll be posting regular updates myself. Actually as all of us who blog (Pastor, Pick, Josh and Myself) are all down here and all have our labtops I'll wager all of us will be updating.

Open the box...

So the title of the post really has two meanings. In our Volunteer Team meetings Jeremy's got us reading the (In my humble... no scratch that in this case, in my wildly unapologetic overinflated opinion, at least in this case...) Book the Houdini Solution, thinking INSIDE the box.

As he, or anyone else who's a part of this meeting will tell you I've been fighting this book from day one. It's not to say that I haven't come away with a lot of information, it's just something about the book rubs me the wrong way... and as the team knows I will argue the semantics of how the book is subtitled until they want to strangle me.

Actually I've started to use the book in creative planning, instead of responding negatively to an idea... or arguing it and pounding the table as we have been instructed to do I just whip out my copy of the book and bang THAT on the table.

Really and truly though I HAVE taken away some good ideas from the book so it hasn't been for naught but I don't know... I'll post more when I get a bit further in it.

Now the REAL reason for this post (congrats for sticking around long enough to get to this point, I could make a sarcastic yet witty jab about your needing a life (all in love though, really and truly!), but then I'm the one writing this so I have no room to talk now do I?) oh did I type that out loud?

AHEM. Back to the point. Pandora. (as in Pandora's box) No NOT the Greek Mythological figure, although that is the reference for the post title, no I'm talking about the website. I've managed to get two people (At least two that I'm aware of) addicted to it so I'm going for more.

What is it? Well to put it basically it's online radio station that where YOU create your own radio station. Just try it. You know the old saying "What do you have on your ipod?" well try "What stations do you have programmed on your Pandora?"

And while I'm on the subject of addicting online radio, I've found this little gem a while ago, not as... effective? (In my now humble opinion) as Pandora at song selection it's fun to play around with, and it does have a nice selection.

Yes and Amen...

I just got off the phone with Jeremy.

They are en-route to home.

Everyone.

In better health, if a bit tired.

God answered our prayers Yes and Amen.

Passing on skills

I ran across this article off one of the food blogs. Now I love food, but not just eating I enjoy cooking as well, and I found this to be an interesting article regarding a chef who works in philly teaching his skills to juvenile delinquents.

Before you hit the link do keep in mind that we are talking about inner city Philadelphia kids are have committed crime, so some of the language depicts this.

Worship Set

I've really got to back into the habit of posting these, even if it's just for reference purposes.

First off we had Tammie and Mia (switching off) Leading worship this week, our set list was

Blessed Be Your Name (The tree63 version)
How he loves (Jesus Culture)
You Alone (Jesus Culture)
We Cry Out (Jesus Culture)

How he loves was amazingly done, but I'm not sure if it's as congregational-y singable as we initially thought. (The Chorus is, the verses are a bit... odd?)

We cry out though was amazing. It was rocking, it was connecting, it started off as a performance song, but half way through became a worship song. I've gotten so much positive feedback about this set as a whole!

This Sunday our Downtown Campus Praise team is coming in. They're got a different vibe than my team does, (I mean they'll demographic that they're reaching is different) but I know it's gonna be an awesome experience. Hopefully I'll be able to post from Drive, I can't believe that it's only... 3 days away!!!!

Oh and I want to try this, it sounds like an awesome worship experience.
